Mental health concerns in children are more common than you think. Currently 1 in 7 children (4-11 years) experience a mental illness. Having good mental health habits begins as early as childhood. Developing a resilient mind set and having good mental health as a child will set them up for life. A healthy mind leads to healthy development and balanced wellbeing.
Having good mental health helps children adjust to the changes and challenges in life. Some common mental health related issues include:
- Relationship problems
- Eating or body image issues
- Bullying (includes cyber bullying)
- Anxiety or worry
- Self-harm
- Abuse
- Sad or depressed
- Behavioural issues
