This year’s cohort has only just begun Kindergarten for 2021 and it may seem too soon to think about enrolling already for 2022. However, depending on the school you would like your child to attend, or whether they potentially need additional supports. You may need to consider enrolling now or even as early as two years prior!
If you are considering sending your child to a Catholic school, applying before March is optimal. If you are considering a private/independent school, you may need to apply almost two years prior. If your child may need additional physical supports within the school, again, you may need to apply as early as two years prior. This is to ensure that the school is ready and prepared to support your child in whatever way they may need. They may even need to amend buildings to suit, which is why as much notice as possible is best.
There are also other factors to consider, such as your child attending playgroups, day care or preschool. Research has shown that children who attend a preschool prior to school are better prepared than a child that is not. This does not mean academically, but emotionally, socially, communicatively and physically. However, sometimes attending a preschool is not achievable which is why attending a regular playgroup or a transition to school program is also a great way for your child to work on these skills. In the Camden Local Government Area there are a number of playgroups, check out our directory to find one close to you. Research shows that children who start school when developmentally ready to learn tend to do better in school – and it sets them up for further success later in life.
